Genre: Death Metal
Origin: United States
There seems to be a bit of a resurgence these days within the underground extreme death metal scene in North America. The U.S. has always been a haven where death metal thrived, especially in the early '90s and today it still thrives in some form or another. The only problem is, a lot of these bands being deemed death metal in the U.S. are not real death metal.
But there has been an elite group within the underground here in the U.S. who are bringing forth the purity of real death metal. Such newer acts as Father Befouled, Funebrarum, Disma, and now Vasaeleth are bringing to the forefront the darker, evil, uglier, atmospheric, and more brutal side of death metal that seems to have been lost within the U.S. death metal scene. Pretty much the feeling of what death metal is supposed to be like and how it should be portrayed.
Hailing from the Georgia and Texas states respectively, Vasaeleth are a new act which features members from two of the most promising new U.S. black metal acts, namely Legions Of Astaroth and Dagon. Follwing their well received demo and their Adorned & Iridescent EP, both which were in limited quantities sold out instantly and just these two releases alone cemented Vasaeleth's position within the elite of the underground U.S. death metal scene, Vasaeleth have delivered their ultra guttural, brutal, and doomy debut album Crypt Born And Tethered To Ruin. Conjuring the ancient vibes summoned by such legendary acts as Incantation, Autopsy, and Mortician, the death metal that Vasaeleth deliver is a reminder of the old-school glory days when brutal and raw guttural death metal ruled supreme in the early '90s where albums like Onward To Golgotha and Mental Funeral laid down the foundations of this ugly side of the death metal coin.
The overall vibe of Crypt Born And Tethered To Ruin clearly reflects said album's moniker and is a true expression of pure unbridled purifying death. This in turn, makes Vasaeleth one of, if not the rawest, most brutal and evil death metal band in the U.S. today. Those who really understand the essence of true death metal will know what we're alluding to nonetheless.
